Sheree' and I took a quick trip to the mountains for spring break, continuing out N.C. mountain explorations. We stayed one night at the White Gate Inn and Cottage, and two nights at the Waynesville Golf and Spa Resort. We spent our time eating good food, birding and hiking, identifying spring flowers, and looking at some real estate. Waynesville is located about 45 minutes west of Asheville, and is only 30 minutes from Great Smoky Mtn National Park. Pisgah National Forest, including the largest designated wilderness area in the southeast, is south of Waynesville. Most of the wildflower pictures were taken on a trail near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance. Our next mountain trip will probably take us north of Asheville, to Hot Springs.
