Riley and I spent eleven days in the UP visiting family and exploring. Brian couldn't make this trip :( But it was still a great vacation. :D
It was a 1049 mile trip from Durham NC to Barbeau Mi., and a total of 17.5 hours of driving (averaging a brisk 60 mi per hour!). In Barbeau I enjoyed a welcomed rest, and the usual cool walks, great food and scenery. Mom and dad gave me a run at the local gym. We finished the weekend with a $35 win at the casino.
Spent a couple days in Marquette. The city has made a lot of improvements over the years...very clean, live-able, bike and pedestrian friendly, with nice parks, architecture and landscaping, especially along the lake shore. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures during that time.
Riley and I camped and hiked along the Pictured Rocks...specifically Twelve Mile Beach...very beautiful, but hard to capture it all in pictures. We were blessed with great weather throughout our entire trip.
The Fourth of July was spent in my childhood hometown of Munising, a small town which makes the Fourth a big celebration. Unfortunately the fire works were rained out, but it was fun watching the parade and spending some time with my parents, brother and nieces. Those girls are sweet, and fun! Am I getting shorter?
I drove back July 6th to the North Carolina mountains where Brian, Scott and I met and camped on Mount Mitchell (pictures are on a separate gallery.) All and all a wonderful trip.
